Coronado HS Band Advances to UIL Texas State Marching Contest!
Congratulations to the Coronado HS Band for advancing to the 2014 UIL Texas State Marching Contest in San Antonio, TX! The Coronado HS Band, under the direction of Mark Saenz, Daniel Holmes and Jessica Shin, captured the highest scores, and the honor of being the sole representative for the Greater El Paso Area during the UIL 6A Area A West Zone Marching Contest on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at the Socorro ISD Student Activities Complex. Also representing El Paso ISD was the Franklin HS Band, under the direction of Bruce Beach and Daniel Allen. This contest featured 5 other marching bands from Socorro and Ysleta ISD who were also vying for the right to advance to the State Marching Contest. Fine Arts Administration offers best wishes to the Coronado Band as they prepare to display their talents at the 2014 UIL Texas State Marching Contest. Additionally, Fine Arts Administration extends a sincere note of gratitude to all bands for their dedication, commitment and hard work during this marching season!
El Paso HS Band Earns 8th Place at 2014 NMSU Tournament of Bands Finals!
Congratulations to the El Paso HS Band for placing 8th in the Finals portion of the 2014 NMSU Tournament of Bands held at Aggie Memorial Stadium in Las Cruces, NM on Saturday, October 25, 2014. The El Paso HS Band, under the direction of Roman Lechuga, also garnered impressive awards such as the Class B General Effects Caption Award and Class B First Place Award during the Preliminaries portion of this event!
Other El Paso ISD Bands that participated in Preliminaries included the Austin HS, Chapin HS, and Jefferson Silva. This event attracted 27 bands from throughout Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. However, only 10 bands earned the distinction of advancing to Finals.
Fine Arts Administration extends appreciation to all bands for their dedication, commitment and hard work throughout this marching season! Furthermore, we also acknowledge the efforts of all parents, family members, and volunteers who contributed to the success of this season.
2 EPISD Bands Advance to Finals at 2014 Socorro ISD March Fest!
Congratulations go out to Chapin HS and Coronado HS Bands for advancing to the Finals portion of the 2014 Socorro ISD March Fest, which took place on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Socorro ISD’s Student Activities Complex. Chapin HS, under the direction of Arty Uribe and Humberto Perez, placed 10th overall. Coronado HS, under the direction of Mark Saenz, Daniel Holmes and Jessica Shin, not only captured the Outstanding Music Caption Awards in both the Preliminaries and Finals portions, but they also placed 3rd overall.
19 marching bands representing various districts displayed their half-time shows throughout the day at this annual event. However, only 10 bands advanced to the Finals portion. Other EPISD bands that participated in the Preliminaries portion included Bowie HS, and Franklin HS. Fine Arts Administration congratulates all participants for demonstrating their wonderful talents! We also acknowledge the efforts of all the directors, assistant directors, students, parents and volunteers who contribute to the success of these performances.
Coronado HS Percussion Awarded Top Honors at Socorro Percussion Invitational
Congratulations go out to the Coronado HS Percussion for earning Outstanding Drum Line and taking First Place at the 2014 Socorro ISD Percussion Invitational. The group is under the direction of Head Band Director, Mark Saenz, and Assistant Band Directors Daniel Holmes and Jessica Shin.
This event took place on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Socorro High School Stadium and featured 14 high school percussion ensembles from El Paso, Socorro and Ysleta ISD’s. Also representing EPISD were Chapin HS and Franklin HS. Fine Arts Administration applauds the efforts of all the directors, assistant directors, students, parents and volunteers who contribute to the success of these performances.
EPISD Bands Earn Superior and Excellent Ratings!
EPISD Bands had great performances throughout the day at the 2014 UIL Region 22 Marching Contest. The event, held at Socorro ISD's Student Activities Complex on Saturday, October 11, 2014, featured 29 bands from various districts throughout El Paso County.
Chapin HS, Coronado HS, El Paso HS, and Franklin HS Bands earned First Division Ratings. Austin HS, Andress HS, Burges HS, Irvin HS, and Jefferson Silva HS Bands earned Second Division Ratings.
Fine Arts Administration congratulates all participants on a job well done, and wishes Coronado HS and Franklin HS Bands the best as they advance to the Area 6A West Zone Area Marching Contest on Saturday, October 25, 2014.
29 Bands Compete in 2014 EPISD Marching Invitational!
A total of 29 Marching Bands competed at the Baty-Simang Stadium located on the Bowie High School campus on Saturday, October 4, 2014. This is the fourth consecutive year the Fine Arts Department has hosted this Marching Invitational. Present at this contest were not only El Paso ISD bands, but also bands from throughout the greater El Paso Area representing districts such as Anthony, Clint, Fabens, Gadsen, San Elizario Socorro and Ysleta ISD’s.
El Paso ISD Bands that earned First Division Ratings included Andress HS, Coronado HS, El Paso HS, and Franklin HS. Second Division Ratings were awarded to Austin HS, Bowie HS, Burges HS, Chapin HS, Irvin HS, and Jefferson Silva HS.
Fine Arts Administration wishes all bands who participated in this event, especially those from our own district, the best as they prepare for next week’s UIL Region 22 Marching Contest that will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2014!
Burges HS Marching Band Earns First Division and Best in Show Class A Distinction
The Burges HS Marching Band, under the direction of Mike Porras, kicked off their marching contest season with a Superior performance on Saturday, September 27, 2014. The band not only earned a First Division Rating, but they were also selected as Best in Show Class A at the 2014 Andress Marching Invitational!
Additional EPISD bands that performed their marching shows at this event included Austin HS and Irvin HS. Fine Arts wishes them and the remainder of our marching bands the best as they prepare for the official kickoff of the 2014 Marching Contest Season at the EPISD Marching Invitational. 7 EPISD Students Selected for 2014-2015 TMEA Region 22 Jazz Bands
7 students from El Paso ISD High Schools were selected as members of 2014-2015 Texas Music Educators Association Region 22 Jazz Bands; 3 additional EPISD students were designated as alternates. More than 130 high school students from throughout surrounding districts in El Paso, auditioned for these spots on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Hanks High School.
Elijah Ontiveros (Trumpet, Andress HS), Hunter Stufflebean (Bass Trombone, Coronado HS), and Duglas Huerta (Jazz Piano, Coronado HS) made the TMEA Region 22 Jazz Band 1. Antonio De Cesare (Trumpet, Coronado HS), Shania Cordoba (Trumpet, Coronado HS), Morgan Chandler (Trumpet, Franklin HS), Esteban Zubia (Drums, El Paso HS), made the TMEA Region 22 Jazz Band 2. Alternates include Alan Barcenas (Alto Saxophone, Coronado HS), Matthew Jacob Pacheco (Trumpet, Coronado HS), and Adrian Chavarria (Tenor Trombone, Jefferson),
Elijah Ontiveros and Duglas Huerta will have their recorded auditions advance to the State level in Austin, TX during the month of November for possible qualification to the TMEA All-State Jazz Band. TMEA will post results on their website in November.
Fine Arts congratulates these extraordinary young musicians for their accomplishments, and wishes Elijah and Duglas the best as they contend for coveted seat in the 2014-2015 TMEA All-State Jazz Ensembles.
Mark your calendars for the TMEA Region 22 Jazz Band Concert on Thursday, November 20 at Hanks HS. You will undoubtedly be impressed to hear these incredible young musicians! Concert begins at 7PM.
Coronado HS Wind Symphony Advances to 5A Honor Band Contest Finals
Congratulations to Mark Saenz, Daniel Holmes, Jessica Shin, and the Coronado HS Wind Symphony for advancing to the TMEA 5A State Honor Band Contest Finals.
The listening session took place on Sunday July 27, 2014 in San Antonio, TX during the Texas Bandmasters Association Convention. They ranked 12th overall in a field of 14 of the very finest 5A bands in the state!
